BMET Project Specialist – Clinical Engineering

Our Ann Arbor campus located in SE Michigan, has a Monday through Friday, day shift opportunity for a BMET Project Specialist – Clinical Engineering, with a minimum of 5-8+ years of Clinical Equipment project management in a healthcare environment.


Working with limited supervision in support of the Manager, you’ll oversee multiple cross-functional and system wide clinical equipment product initiatives, including coordinating the work of contractors and vendors for capital projects, while monitoring the development of technical requirements, design, testing and implementation to fit the customer needs. This role includes managing progressively complex projects and interfacing with various external customers. Strong project management and communication skills (Project Management Certification – PMC – desired), along with experience in managing to a project budget. 

An Associate’s degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Business Administration or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience is required; advanced degree preferred.

Novartis Technical Support Organization: The Field Service Engineer II

As a key member the Novartis Technical Support organization The Field Service Engineer II’s primary responsibility is to offer the highest quality field service and technical support to Novartis customers. DUTIES: Responsible to provide response to customer inquiries and complaints, participation in customer site evaluations, upgrades of hardware and/or software, training, product installations, preventive maintenance, and ongoing service and support for all equipment at the customer facility and via telephone; openly communicate with other groups within Novartis to assure rapid resolution of issues raised by customers; communicate integrally with both in-house and field Technical Support Specialists, Product Support, and Account Managers regarding product performance; provide timely and thorough updates of all in-process and completed service calls on an on-going basis; thoroughly document all problems and resolutions and parts, maintain the documentation, and to provide it to Technical Support in a timely manner; interact with other functional groups including but not limited to Marketing, Sales, Regulatory Affairs and Novartis business partners for manufacturing, distribution, and product support functions; maintain customer contact records, personal and site inventory of Novartis owned equipment, spare parts and technical files; adhere to procedures and protocols outlined by the Novartis Technical Support organization and Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics; participate in all staff conference calls and meetings; additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS: Engineering degree (EET), Biomedical Engineering Technology (BMET), or advanced electronics certification preferred, and a minimum of 3 - 5 years experience supporting highly complex diagnostic equipment in a medical or laboratory environment, or an equivalent facility. Demonstrated, superior expertise in supporting and servicing highly complex instrumentation. Excellent organizational, record keeping and inventory skills required. Knowledge of GMP, ISO and other certifying agency policies and regulations; proficient with Microsoft applications and familiar with computerized call handling systems; excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills; self-motivated and self-directed, with strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to communicate technical information effectively. Position will be based in the Detroit area and candidate must have ability to travel extensively outside assigned geographic area. As needed, will cover additional geographic regions to facilitate significant service requirement of customer base. Work hours are flexible, not conforming to a standard 40-hour workweek; candidate must be accessible for contact by phone and cover rotations for weekend/holiday on-call.

MANAGER OF CLINICAL ENGINEERING

The Clinical Engineering Manager leads the clinical engineering initiatives at hospitals to provide superior customer service and operational efficiencies through the administration. The Manager engages customers, vendors and Technicians with focus on continuous improvement and customer satisfaction. The Manager also communicates between the hospital's executive suite and leadership. The Manager provides service and financial metrics to the central office and manages Joint Commission inspections at the hospital.
The position is located in Joliete, IL (Chicago area). The facility is a 500-bed hospital and the position would manage about a 10-person department.
Qualifications:
BS degree in an Engineering or technological field
Knowledge of Clinical Engineering industry
General knowledge of technical equipment
Ability to manage day to day and long term site operations
Ability to manage, motivate, and develop others
Must have shown upward mobility

Develops long and short-term goals and plans for Clinical Engineering and Technology Management, in support of goals and objectives of Optim and client

Maintains current knowledge of clinical and biomedical techniques and methodologies. 

Requirements

Master’s degree in Clinical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related field required.
 
Seven to ten years of related work experience, including both clinical engineering work and management roles, in a healthcare setting.
 
Demonstrated ability to manage people and projects effectively.  Ability to interview, select and hire direct reports.  Ability to provide vision and strategy and to lead others through changes in methods and processes.
 
Advanced analytical skills to conduct technical research and implement new technology.
 
Advanced decision-making and problem-solving skills to solve highly complex technical and/or managerial issues, and develop original solutions in situations with little or no precedent or established guidelines, such as recognizing source of telemetry interference and creating new national standards for safe and effective use of specific medical equipment.
 
Verbal and written communication and presentation skills, as well as good business acumen for management meetings and preparation of plans and reports.
 
Highly developed interpersonal skills to interact, negotiate with and persuade others, in extremely sensitive situations, such as high profile medical device incidents.  In addition to regular contacts with Optim, a significant amount of contact is with the client and the community.
